Outdoor & Marine-Grade Drapery Fabrics
Solution-dyed acrylics and marine-grade performance weaves engineered for direct sun, salt air, and seasonal weather.
What is this fabric?
Outdoor drapery fabric is a specification category — solution-dyed acrylic, marine-grade performance linen, and dedicated outdoor weaves from Belgian and Italian mills that carry the fabric through full UV exposure, salt air, and seasonal weather without compromise.
The studio specifies outdoor fabric on covered patios, pool cabanas, terraces, and outdoor dining rooms across Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Newport Coast, and Pacific Palisades.
Light control
Varies by openness — solar-control outdoor weaves rated 3% to 10% openness for daytime glare on terraces.
Privacy
Tighter weaves provide full daytime privacy; layered systems handle evening.
Acoustics
Modest absorption.
UV protection
The most aggressive UV specification available in residential drapery.
Durability
3–10 years depending on exposure.
Appearance
Tailored, contemporary, and finished — never reads as a tarp or shade fabric when correctly specified.
Motorization
Compatible with weather-rated motors and protected electrical runs.
Maintenance
Brush-clean monthly; mild soap and water as needed; full cleaning every season.
- Covered patios
- Pool cabanas
- Outdoor dining rooms

- Pergolas
- Solution-dyed color carries through the fiber — does not fade in direct sun
- Marine-grade weaves are resistant to salt-air corrosion of the fabric fibers
- 5- to 7-year UV warranties on quality outdoor fabric
- Cleanable with mild soap and water; many specifications are bleach-cleanable
- Hand is firmer and less luxurious than natural fiber
- Color palette is more limited than indoor specification
- Fully exposed positions reduce fabric life to 3–5 years; covered positions extend to 7–10
- Marine-grade hardware — stainless or powder-coated aluminum, never bronze or brass on direct coast

- Recessed soffit tracks coordinated with the architect for clean exterior reads
Questions homeowners ask about Outdoor
- Can indoor fabric work outdoors?
- No. Natural linen, cotton, and silk fail within a season in direct exposure. The fabric has to be specified for the elevation.
- Is outdoor drapery worth the cost?
- When the room is used — covered patios, pool cabanas — yes. Soft furnishings change how the space feels far more than hardscape does.
Talk with Olga about whether Outdoor is the right fabric for your room.
Fabric is a 20-year decision. Every consultation begins with the architecture and the orientation — we will tell you which fabric the room is asking for, even if it is not the one you came in expecting.
Duroque does not mail fabric samples. Selection and sourcing happen in a private design consultation — at our West Hollywood studio or on-site at your residence, hotel, restaurant, or yacht — where fabric is reviewed against the actual light, architecture, and program of the room.
