Motorized Floor-to-Ceiling Ripple Fold — a portfolio project documenting a window treatment approach in Manhattan Beach, CA. A studio reference in design intent, material specification, and architectural reasoning.
A new-build beachfront residence with a continuous twenty-eight-foot wall of glass facing west. The homeowner needed daytime glare control without compromising the ocean view, evening privacy, and silent motorized operation — all in a salt-air environment that punishes specification compromises.
Dual-track motorized ripple fold: a 3% performance sheer on the front track for daytime, a heavyweight performance linen on the back track for evening. Recessed ceiling pocket coordinated with the architect before drywall. Marine-grade hardware throughout.
Front: 3% openness solar-control sheer in linen-look weave from a Belgian coastal mill. Back: heavyweight performance linen, UV-stabilized, salt-air-resistant.
Lutron Sivoia QS hardwired DC motors on recessed aluminum track, marine-grade carriers, concealed in a 9” ceiling pocket.
Pre-wiring coordinated with the electrician; track set before paint; sheer and over-drapery hung on consecutive days; commissioned with the home's existing Lutron HomeWorks system.
The view reads unbroken from the great room. Daytime glare is controlled without darkening the room; evening privacy closes silently from a bedside keypad. The marine-grade hardware shows no salt damage two years on.
