What is this fabric?
Marine-grade drapery fabric is a specification category that exceeds residential performance cloth in three controlling areas: salt-air corrosion resistance, IMO MED (Marine Equipment Directive) flammability certification, and dimensional stability under shipboard humidity cycling.
The studio specifies marine cloth for owners' staterooms, guest cabins, main salons, and skylounges on yachts berthed in Marina del Rey, Newport Coast, and the Mediterranean. Cloth selection coordinates with marine hardware — stainless steel or anodized aluminum tracks, never bronze or brass.
Light control
Marine sheers preserve view through saloon glass; marine blackout linings deliver total darkness in staterooms at anchor or underway.
Privacy
Fully opaque when specified as a layered stateroom system.
Acoustics
Marine velvets and heavyweight wools contribute measurably to stateroom acoustic comfort — particularly relevant on yachts with deck-mounted generators or stabilizer noise.

Questions homeowners ask about Marine-Grade
- Why does residential cloth fail on a yacht?
- Salt air corrodes the fiber and breaks down dye in months rather than years. Residential cloth without IMO MED certification also cannot be installed on a commercially registered vessel under flag-state inspection.
- Do you specify for sailing yachts as well as motor yachts?
- Yes. Sailing yacht specification adds dimensional stability under heel as a controlling concern — cloth that hangs correctly on hard at anchor and underway in a seaway.
