Drapery Styles Guide · Relaxed

Wave Fold Drapery

A European cousin of ripple fold — slightly deeper waves, softer curvature, and a more relaxed hand.

What is this style?

Wave fold is the European interpretation of ripple fold. The carriers ride a similar concealed track but are spaced to produce slightly deeper, softer waves than the tighter s-curves of an American ripple-fold system. The cloth reads as more relaxed, more linen-like, and quieter at the fold.

We specify wave fold when the architecture is contemporary but the brief is soft — coastal modern, modern Mediterranean, and the warm-contemporary residences increasingly typical of Los Angeles primary suites.

Ceiling height considerations

Reads correctly at any ceiling height. The deeper wave reads especially well at 10–14 ft.

Motorization compatibility

Pairs with hardwired DC motorization in the same way ripple fold does. Somfy Sonesse and Lutron Sivoia are the studio's default specifications.

Stacking note

Stacks at 14–17% of track width — nearly as tight as ripple fold, with a softer fold line.

Advantages

  • Softer, deeper wave than ripple fold
  • Reads as more relaxed and linen-friendly
  • Stacks nearly as tight as ripple fold — 14–17% of track width
  • European-engineered carriers with longer service life
