Ocean-view drapery is engineered before it is styled. The specification has to resolve three conditions that do not exist in inland Los Angeles: aggressive UV, salt air, and fire-zone code compliance.
Cloth
Solution-dyed performance weaves, UV-treated linens, fire-retardant cloth where required. Untreated naturals on direct west coastal exposure fail within 5–7 years.
Hardware
Anodized aluminum and marine-finish hardware. Sealed motor housings on hardwired DC systems. Concealed power runs that do not corrode at the coast.
System design
Two- or three-layer specification — UV-blocking sheer inboard for the day, face cloth or blackout outboard for the night. Solar tracking automation reduces manual cycling at peak UV hours.
