Cost of Drapery by Fabric Type

How fabric category drives the largest single cost variable in custom drapery.

Fabric is the largest single variable in custom drapery cost. The same panel in a $60 performance sheer versus a $400 European silk can differ by a factor of three or more in finished price.

Performance and synthetic blends

$30–$90/yd. Excellent for high-UV and coastal applications. Often indistinguishable from natural linen in the finished panel.

Belgian and Italian linen

$80–$220/yd. The studio's default for primary-room drapery. Ages beautifully.

Heavy cotton and cotton-linen blends

$60–$150/yd. Strong choice for traditional and transitional rooms.

Wool and wool blends

$120–$280/yd. Best acoustic absorption among natural fibers.

Velvet

$120–$400/yd depending on fiber. Heavyweight cotton velvet is the acoustic-and-formality benchmark.

Silk and silk blends

$180–$600+/yd. Reserved for formal rooms; requires interlining without exception.
