Sheers vs Blackout Drapery

Two cloths that almost always live in the same room — and almost never replace each other.

The most common mistake in residential drapery is treating sheers and blackout cloth as alternatives. They are not. In a correctly specified primary suite, both live in the same room — on separate tracks, controlled separately, layered for daytime and nighttime.

What sheers do

Preserve view. Filter UV and direct sun. Provide daytime privacy. Read as soft, sculptural movement against the architecture.

What blackout drapery does

Eliminate light. Provide nighttime privacy. Insulate against west-facing thermal load. Pair with motorization for one-touch night sequences.
