Ceiling mounting puts the track at the ceiling rather than above the window frame. It emphasises height, creates a continuous architectural line, absorbs windows of uneven height, and suits floor-to-ceiling glass. It is not automatically correct: the structure has to carry the hardware, and vents, sprinklers, lighting, beams, soffits, and crown moulding all have a say. The track may remain visible, or be concealed.
A recessed pocket is an opening built into the ceiling that hides the track, carriers, motors, and the top of the panel, so the fabric appears to emerge from the ceiling itself. Pocket planning belongs at the construction stage, and the team has to agree pocket width and depth, track placement, the number of drapery layers, motor dimensions, electrical and service access, ceiling finish, vents, lighting, sprinklers, wall alignment, and where the stack will sit.
A pocket that is too narrow will not take the intended drapery; one set too close to the glass causes fabric interference; one pushed too far into the room looks disconnected from the window. Because these conditions vary by project, final dimensions are confirmed with the relevant professionals and product suppliers before construction.
