Traditional Custom Drapery & Upholstered Cornice Boxes with Jeweled Embellishments — a portfolio project documenting a window treatment approach in Bakersfield, CA. A studio reference in design intent, material specification, and architectural reasoning.
A Bakersfield residence whose homeowners preferred a classic, highly decorative aesthetic rather than a contemporary window treatment. The brief was to complement traditional furnishings and formal interior architecture — ornate crown molding, gilded ceiling detail, crystal chandeliers, double-height great room volumes — while creating a dramatic focal point in multiple rooms throughout the home.
Custom upholstered cornice boxes designed in a black-and-silver palette to coordinate with the client's existing furniture and décor. Decorative jeweled embellishments were incorporated along the lower scalloped edge of each cornice, creating a distinctive, elegant look inspired by traditional luxury interiors. Full-length drapery panels were tailored to complement the ornate detailing while providing softness, scale, and visual balance throughout the home.
Tone-on-tone patterned damask cornice face fabric with continuous crystal-bead trim and center medallion embellishment; coordinating drapery panels in a complementary woven fabric, fully lined and interlined for weighted drape.
Hand-built wood cornice frames, fabric-wrapped and upholstered on-site, with jeweled trim hand-applied along the scalloped lower edge. Concealed traverse rods behind each cornice carry the drapery panels.
Cornices fabricated in the studio and installed on-site at full ceiling height — scaffolding staged to clear the existing crystal chandeliers and gilded crown molding. Drapery panels hung after the cornices were set, then steam-trained and dressed so the folds broke evenly at the floor across every room in the program.
The finished design combines custom fabrication, decorative trim work, and formal drapery styling into a cohesive window treatment solution that reflects the client's personal taste and complements the overall interior design of the residence. Each room reads as a single composed moment — the cornices crown the architecture, the drapery softens it, and the jeweled detailing ties the program back to the crystal lighting throughout the home.
