How to Maintain Custom Drapery

What the studio recommends — and does not recommend — for long-term care of luxury custom drapery.

Custom drapery, properly specified and installed, requires very little maintenance. The studio recommends a light schedule of inspection and care that preserves the panel for decades.

Vacuum every quarter

A soft-brush vacuum, low suction, top-to-bottom. Removes dust before it becomes embedded.

Steam every two years

Vertical hand-steam refreshes the fold and removes minor wrinkles. We can schedule this through the studio.

Inspect hardware annually

Anchor torque, finial security, track lubrication. Five minutes per opening, once a year.

What not to do

Do not machine-wash. Do not dry-clean lined drapery without consulting the studio. Do not iron face fabric.
